The Japanese term of chopsticks is Hashi which is used to eat most kinds of Japanese foods. Chopsticks, a pair of small even-length tapered sticks, are the traditional eating utensils of East Asia like China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam as well as Thailand. Chopsticks are eating utensils that were invented in China over 5,000 years ago. These eating tools origin is not exactly known but they were definitely in use by the Shang dynasty (1766 BC - 1122 BC). The chopsticks are linked to the Chinese cooking methods, as the food is cut in tiny pieces and the chopsticks make them easy to pick and eat. Chopsticks are made by the most common materials namely bamboo and wood. Fancy chopsticks have special symbols or animal figures carved on them which are favorites amongst everybody.

- Japanese Chopsticks: These are short to medium length sticks that taper to a pointed end. Japanese chopsticks are traditionally made of wood and are lacquered.
- Chinese Chopsticks: These are longer sticks made of different materials that taper to a blunt end.
- Korean Chopsticks: These are made of brass or silver, medium in length stainless steel rods that taper to a square blunted end.
- Vietnamese Chopsticks: These are traditionally wooden made with long sticks that taper to a blunted end.
